Why do the unopened blooms on my gardenia plant fall off? do you think birds are the culprits?

check for insects then spray if any are found! plus, u might be watering them too much..... try to just water em once week..deeply though! they like to be on the dry side of life! good luck

Not birds. Bud drop can be caused by erratic watering and temperatures during bud development. It is a common event on many different plants. Hot days followed by cold nights, heavy rain followed by drought and drying/waterlogging of roots, are some of the possibilities.
Reply:have you checked your plant for insects? some gardenia are prone to whiteflys.check the underside of the leaf for smaal white bugs.good luck
