To be successful, gardenias MUST have these things:
Full sun, with some shading in the summer (in the hottest areas)
An acid soil with a pH between 5 and 6
Keep the soil moist, but never soggy
Humidity, or daily misting
Heavy feeding
Cool night temperatures
They will fail to flower if it gets over 70 F. or less than 50 F.
You can feed them once a month or about every three weeks with a acid based fertiliser like Miracid or one for rhododendrons. Watch out for aphids, and rinse them off carefully if you have them in your area.
If you are growing your gardenia as a potted plant indoors, keep it out of direct, hot sun, and allow it to only get bright light.
Gardenia - what can you tell me about the plant? indoor / outdoor? special care?
sorry not alot except they are so pretty and have the loveliest smell.
Reply:Gardenias can grow indoors or out, depending on the temperatures. They are best adapted for the southern US and west coast and generally do not tolerate freezing weather. As for special care, the link provided has the details.
