Gardenia Bridal Bouquet and Ideas for centerpieces?

I really want a gardenia and lily bouquet. I've heard from some people gardenias are a Winter flower, %26amp; from some they aren't. (The wedding is 12/28/08.) So which is it? According to google, it is a winter flower. I'm just not sure. They always seem to bloom around here at the end of Summer. Also, what could I add to the bouquet to give it some color? My colors are marine blue and platinum. Would a simple silver ribbon be okay, or should I have more?

Also, I'm looking for some cute ideas for centerpieces. I really like the idea of floating candles...maybe?

Thanks in advance!

Gardenia Bridal Bouquet and Ideas for centerpieces?
Gardenias are a summer flower here. I had them in my bouquet. I had a totally white bouquet with just some greenery for color. It was beautiful. If you want some color, I would do the silver ribbon.

Our colors were navy blue and silver. We used some navy blue watermarked fabric and painted silver glitter paint in a star pattern on it and used that as the base for our centerpiece. Then we put two yellow and one white mini rose bushes or vice versa in color on the fabric with votive candles around them. The silver on the fabric caught the flicker of the candles and reflected off of it. They were gorgeous. We then let guests take the mini rose bushes home. Except for one white and one silver wich we still have growing in our rose garden 6 years later.
Reply:I would just use a simple ribbon for the bouquet. If you like floating candles you could just get glass beads or pebbles that were platinum or marine blue and fill the bottom of the vase/container just to add color and then just fine floating candles that looked like gardenias or flowers.
Reply:My mom had a gardenia corsage at my wedding. We got married December 4 so you should be fine at the end of the month. I'm assuming that you know gardenias and some lilys are very fragrant? I can't stand their smell, so I like to point that out in case someone doesn't know.
Reply:I don't know. We are trying to figure out the same thing. Maybe you should just have a spring summer wedding. You could probably just buy them in season and freeze them until December. The floating candles are a good idea just make sure not to set fire to the wedding venue with the candles.
Reply:I think the gardenia is very beautiful for your bouquet, and for the centerpieces I was also going to tell you about the floating candles, thats very cute I went to a wedding with their centerpieces being floating candles and I thought that was very nice.
Reply:OOOh, gardenias! they smell so good, and are such a classy flower, you could use them all by themselves, and it would be great. For the centerpiece, I would have a clear small short vase, and a bunch of gardenias in it. If you wish to have a ribbon, sure, go to the florist and ask, and have him make up a bouquet with those ribbons.

Or go to the artificial flower/craft store, grab some fake gardenias, go to the ribbon rack and pick up the two colors, and experiment on your own.

Gee, I always thought they were a spring or early summer flower, but I'm from Southern Illinois, not The South, what do I know of gardenia season? They are always available at prom time!
