When do gardenias bloom?

Just bought a couple of gardenia bushes for my garden and was wondering what time of the year do they bloom. Also would like to know how to properly care for them (if there are any do's and dont's for gardenias). i live in New Orleans so we have a very warm humid climate. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

When do gardenias bloom?
There are several species but most bloom in early summer. I have one variety called 'August Beauty' that has a heavy bloom of medium sized flowers in June and then a repeat of larger flowers in late Aug-early Sept. The humid night air in August carries that heddy frangrance at least a hundred yards. I live in coastal Virginia and I am sure you will have a different bloom time than I do. My plants are situated so that they get full sun until about mid-day and then go into a dappled shade. As far as Miracid, That is an old name. It is a Miracle Grow product that now goes simply as Miracle Grow for Acid Loving Plants. I think the box has pink or purple trim. It is a good product and will help keep your Gardenia's leaves dark green and glossy.
Reply:I live in new orleans also.I have several gardenias that are in full bloom and have been for several weeks. All I do is make sure they are watered and I use miracle-gro once every 2-3 weeks.
Reply:I live in southeastern Virginia and mine blooms right around high school graduation time. Mid to early June. No idea how to care for them all I ever done was clip it after blooming.
