How do you care for a gardenia?????

I've pampered my gardenia like a baby, still it's not growing. I've put it in the ground, put in a pot, followed all directions on the label, still it's not growing. It always has yellow leaves. I've added iron and acid supplements, in addition to regular feeding with fertilizers. Help, please!!

listen..... stop with the fertilizer, and other stuff ur putting in the soil! ur killing the poor thing with too much "love!" now, water it once a week ...with "plain" water only!!! they like to have the soil on the dry side. u might want to flush out the chemicals with water over the next three days..... just water it with "plain" water till u can see it come out the bottom of the pot..... after doing this for the next three days back off to just once a week! good luck..... and put the fertilizer and stuff away!!!! seriously...i've done the same thing soooo many times, trust me!
Reply:Thank you, Robert. I have started following your advice and am excited to wait for the results. Report It

Reply:Mine is about 4 yrs. old and it is growing great, and smells fabulous. All gardenias I have seen have several yellow leaves on them. They are sort of slow growers so be patient.
Reply:Good luck. Mine got the yellow leaves also. I think they need lots of water. When spring got here I put mine outside, will see how it does. Check under the leaves for bugs, mine had them %26amp; I think thats why the leaves yellowed.
