"Gardenia" is the genus coupled with "jasminoides" as the species = "Cape Jasmine" common name.





That's the trouble with common names... there can be 20 different plants with the same name. Stick with the botanical when you can, and you are much less likely to get confused.





So in essence, I believe what you are asking is "What is the difference between Kleenex and tissue paper?" It's not your fault. Nurseries and growers make our lives frequently difficult.
