When is the best time to cut back my gardenia bushes?

And should I cut from the top or start at the bottom? Or just how do they need to be cut back, for a better shaped bush? Thank You for You'r Help

When is the best time to cut back my gardenia bushes?
Gardenias set flower buds in the fall for the next summer's blooms so you should prune your shrub in the summer immediately after the bloom cycle has ended.

If however, you have a year-round bloomer, prune them to shape after the main (first)flowering has finished. Think flush of new growth, flowers, flush, flowers. They like sun. If yours is in a pot, it likes a top-dressing of about 1 cup of rich compost a couple times per year.

Hope this helps!
